Arceneaux paces Midland past Fairview

MIDLAND – Darren Arceneaux proved to be an unstoppable force Tuesday and that wasn’t good for Fairview’s Panthers.
Midland’s senior forward drained three 3-pointers, went 5-of-6 from the free throw line and poured in a game-high 24 points to help lead the Rebels to a 59-47 victory over the visiting Panthers.
The victory sends the Rebels to 3-0 on the season while the Panthers, a state quarterfinalist in 2012, fell to 3-1.
Arceneaux canned  all three of his 3-pointers in the first half and had 13 points to push the Rebels out to a 33-22 advantage at the break.
He added eight more points and blocked two shots in the third quarter as the Rebels outscored the Panthers 26-25 in the final two frames.
Jake Gautreaux connected on two 3-pointers on the night and finished with 14 points and Randy Primeaux added eight points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Nick Primeaux also scored eight points, Dylan Boudreaux scored three and Devin Gautreaux had two points and eight assists.
The Rebels return to action on Friday when they participate in the Bell City Tournament at 5:15 p.m. They will take on the winner of Thursday’s opening round contest between Hathaway and Johnson Bayou.
In girls’ action, the Lady Rebels weren’t as fortunate.
Fairview, the seven-time defending state champion in Class B, went on 9-0 run to end the first half and went on to a 59-42 victory over the Lady Rebels.
Kristen Breaux kept the Lady Rebels in the game early and finished the night with 16 points and nine rebounds. Nicole Kraut followed with 11 points and Bethany LeJeune had 10. Elizabeth Istre added three points and Brooke Comeaux had two.
