Church Points edges Kaplan in double overtime
KAPLAN – It required two overtimes, but the Church Point High Bears pulled out a 35-34 victory over the Kaplan High Pirates in action here Friday night..
After a scoreless first overtime period, Kaplan had the ball to start the second overtime. The Pirates scored on a three-yard run by Flavers Cauldwll, but the pass for two points failed.
Frederick Williams scored on a 10-yard run for the Bears on their possession and Church Point earned the victory when Alex Higginbotham kicked the PAT for the 35-34 win.
Williams rushed ten times for 66 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Bears. Kylance Castille and Trey Babineaux also ran for touchdowns.
Julius Johnson led the Pirates with 160 yards on 32 carries and a touchdown.
Kaplan took a 14-0 lead into halftime, but the Bears rallied to win the third quarter by a 12-6 margin. The Bears would send the game into overtime by outscoring the Pirates 16-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates outrushed the Bears by a 266 to 164 margin.
