Iota tops Gents in Metro League action
CROWLEY – The Iota Bulldogs rallied from an early 3-1 deficit and scored 13 runs over the final five innings to cruise past the Crowley Gents, 14-4, Monday evening at Miller Stadium.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, but struggled in the bottom of the frame when they gave up three runs on one hit, a single by Blayne Sonnier, and five walks.
From there, Iota’s pitching woes ceased and the Bulldogs issued just two walks the rest of the way in a contest that was halted after the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for Crowley, which returned the favor in the third inning with five walks. The Gents issued 12 free passes on the day.
The Bulldogs were able to take advantage of the five walks in the third inning when they pushed across seven runs.
Hunter Andrus had a two-run single during the outburst while Hunter Daigle and Brett Spell each plated a run with a single and a groundout, respectively.
Matt Dubose added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Tristan Miller, who tripled to the right center field gap, scored on a groundout by Deven Mouton.
Emmett Bobbett pushed across a run with a groundout in the fifth inning and Andy Stephens had an RBI single in the sixth.
Crowley’s Joe Sylvester and Wyatt Stelly each picked up an RBI in the first inning on a pair of bases-loaded walks while the third and final run of the frame crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Stelly singled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a single to center field by Nick Ardoin.
Sonnier, Stelly and Ardoin each had one hit for the Gents.
Daigle and Stephens paced the Bulldogs with two hits each while Andrus, Miller and Hunter Wriborg each had one hit.
