Lady Pios go unbeaten in TCHS Tourney
LAFAYETTE – The Notre Dame Lady Pios made it a clean sweep of the Teurlings Catholic Round Robin this weekend with victories over the host Lady Rebels and Lafayette Christian Academy.
The Lady Pios, who opened the season on Wednesday with a 55-35 victory over Comeaux, improved to 3-0 on the year with the victories.
In Thursday’s contest, the Lady Pios shrugged off a sluggish start after falling behind, 10-8, to LCA.
Madelyn LeJeune sparked the rally by scoring seven of her game-high 19 points in the third quarter to lead the Lady Pios on a 14-4 run. She then poured in eight more points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Pios outscored LCA 14-3.
Hanna Esthay followed LeJeune with five points while Melise Gossen and Alyssa Williams each pitched in four points. Marcella Gossen and Anne Matthews each added two points.
LeJeune was also the Lady Pios’ leading scorer in Saturday’s finale against host Teurlings. She had an 18-point effort that included an 8-for-8 showing from the free throw line.
Elise LeBeouf and Esthay followed with seven and six points, respectively, while Williams and Melise Gossen each scored four. Marcella Gossen and Matthews rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Rebels go 3-0 in
Hathaway Tourney
HATHAWAY – The Midland Rebels improved to 6-3 on the season this weekend after sweeping three straight games in the Hathaway Round Robin.
The Rebels opened the tournament with a 57-43 victory over Bell City, avenging a 46-42 loss to the Bruins a week earlier.
The Rebels followed up with a 71-56 victory over Northside Christian before rounding out the tournament with a 48-39 victory over host Hathaway.
Against Bell City, Devin Gautreaux poured in a game-high 24 points and also had seven rebounds. Randy Primeaux followed with 15 points while Dylan Boudreaux had seven and Taatum Rubin had six. Traven Guidry and Ty Breaux each added two points and Griffin Hains scored one.
In the Northside Christian game, the Warriors led 16-14 after the first quarter before the Rebels rallied for a 39-30 advantage at the break.
The Rebels went on to outscore the Warriors 32-26 in the second half.
Guidry was the Rebels’ leader with 21 points while Boudreaux had 17. Primeaux and Gautreaux followed with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Rubin pitched in four points and Hains had three.
Ty Wilson scored 30 points for the Warriors in the loss. He was followed by Bradley Ancelet and Cole Henry with nine points each while Jonathan Herman and Tyler Johnson eachhad four.
Against Hathaway, Guidry paced the Rebels with 16 points and Gautreaux scored 12. Boudreaux and Primeaux followed with nine points each and Rubin had two.
Gents slip past Pios
CROWLEY – The Crowley Gents rallied for 22 points in the fourth quarter to slip past the Notre Dame Pioneers, 63-58, last week.
The Gents, who trailed for the better part of three quarters, got 13 points from Jacq’Co Price and Grant Trahan during the fourth-quarter run.
Price paced the Gents with 23 points while Trahan followed with 20.
Tyrin Daniels added nine points in the victory; Alquan Wesby pitched in four; Paul Goodley, Xavier Johnson and Quanterral Robinson each had two and Christophe Osten finished with one.
The Pios were led by Hunter Meche with 24 points. Jacob Leleux and John Duos each scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively while Claiton Johnson had eight and Tyler Simar finished with three.
Lady Dogs fall
to Lafayette
LAFAYETTE – The Iota Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-1 on the season last week with a 44-32 loss at Lafayette High.
The Lady Dogs were cold from the floor for the first three quarters and trailed 35-12 entering the final frame.
Becca Fantroy, Cambri St. Andre and Mallory Faul combined for 16 points in the final eight minutes to spark a 20-9 run in the fourth quarter.
Fantroy led the Lady Dogs with 10 points. She was followed by St. Andre with nine points, Faul with seven, Whitney Landry with two and Madeline Gatte with two.
