Mouton brothers combine for no-hitter

LAKE CHARLES – Crowley High’s Mackay and Jon Riley Mouton combined for a no-hitter Thursday to help lead the Gents to a 14-0 mercy rule victory over LaGrange.
The Gents improved to 10-6 overall and 4-0 in District 4-4A play with the victory. They took on Rayne yesterday in a battle of league unbeaten,  but results from that contest were not available at press time.
Mackay Mouton pitched the first three innings and limited the Gators to just one base runner on one walk. That runner was erased on an inning-ending double play in the second frame.
Jon Riley Mouton took over for his brother in the fourth inning and struck out the side in order before getting a flyout and back-to-back groundouts in the fifth to close out the game.
Mackay and Jon Riley, who combined to face the minimum batters (15) on the day, each recorded three strikeouts in the victory.
The Gents gave Mackay Mouton a little breathing room early on by plating five runs in the top of the first inning. Pate Broussard logged a two-run single in the opening frame and Bubba Daigle had an RBI single to lead the charge.
The Gents added another run in the third when Daigle walked and eventually scored on an error.
A three-run fourth innng, sparked by a two-run single from Andre Larry, pushed the Gents lead to 9-0.
Zack Breaux singled to start the fifth inning before Alex Ashby drew a walk and Luke Ancelet was hit by a pitch. Mackay Mouton then delivered a two -run single and Larry picked up his third RBI of the game on a single to center field. Another run crossed the plate on a wild pitch and the final run scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Hebert.
Larry and Mackay Mouton paced Crowley’s 12-hit offensive attack with three hits each. Larry drove in three runs while Mouton had two RBI.
Broussard followed with two hits and two RBI while Jon Riley Mouton and Daigle each had one hit and one RBI. Zack Breaux and Ancelet each had one hit and Hebert recorded an RBI.
The Gents will be in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Eunice to take on the Bobcats to close out the first round of league play. First pitch for that contest is slated for 6 p.m.
