Notre Dame duo headline's 6-3A All-District teams

CROWLEY – There aren’t many certainties in life, but one you count on is the fact that the Notre Dame Pios will dominate selections when it comes to All-District football teams.
It happened again this year after the Pios posted three shutouts and outscored their league opponents 233-13 enroute to eighth straight district title and 15th championship in the last 18 seasons.
That dominance was reflected in the postseason honors when the Pios landed 18 players and grabbed 19 positions on the 6-3A All-District first-team that was recently released.
Included in that haul were two of leagues top three honors.
Notre Dame quarterback Brad Stoma was tabbed as the league’s Offensive Most Valuable Player while teammate Nate Link was named the Defensive MVP.
The Coach of the Year honor went to Kaplan’s Stephen Lotief, who led his team to a runnerup finish in league play.
Stoma, the Pios’ senior quarterback, completed 74 of 118 passes during the regular season for 1,154 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also picked up 197 yards and five touchdowns on 52 carries.
Link highlighted a defensive unit that surrendered just two touchdowns in league play. The senior recorded 52 tackles (20 assists) and had 17 stops behind the line of scrimmage. He also logged 11 sacks for minus 42 yards and had 26 hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Joining Stoma on the offensive side of the ball is a long list of players, beginning with his entire offensive line.
Jacob Vicknair was named the first-team center while Alan Zaunbrecher and Landon Johnsey were named at the guard slots. Reese Besse and Hans Roy, meanwhile, made the unit as the tackles.
In addition, Ethan Smith had 14 receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns and was named the first-team tight end and Damon Comeaux and Lance Bertrand were two of four running backs selected to the team.
Comeaux emerged as the Pios’ top running back following an injury that sidelined Bertrand for several weeks. He went on to rack up 782 yards and 12 touchdowns and also had seven receptions for 70 yards.
Bertrand, who began the season with a bang, only to be injured, returned from at the tail end of the year and finished with 540 yards and seven touchdowns on 88 carries.
Pio Boedy Borill earned a spot at wide receiver along with Erath’s Ross Granger and North Vermilion’s Dade Dieterich. Borill finished his junior campaign with 19 receptions for 357 yards and five touchdowns. Granger had 35 catches for 678 yards and nine touchdowns and Dieterich hauled in 26 passes for 312 yards and one touchdown.
Notre Dame’s Joe Faulk also earned a spot - at the Athlete position. The junior had 46 carries for 283 yards and three touchdowns while also hauling in nine passes for 56 yards. He also completed three passes for 49 yards.
Also, Notre Dame’s Dustin Reiners nabbed the final spot on the offensive side at kicker. The senior was 45 of 47 on extra point attempts and he made two field goals, his longest from 45 yards.
Kaplan’s Julius Johnson and Erath’s Elijah Mitchell nailed down the other two spots at running back after each rushed for over 1,000 yards. Johnson posted 1,075 yards and 12 touchdowns on 216 carries while Mitchell had 1,058 yards and 10 touchdowns on 169 carries.
North Vermilion’s Caleb Castro was named the punter after averaging 37 yards per punt.

Kirsch followed Link with 51 tackles (14 assists) and had 20 tackles for a loss of 102 yards. He led the team in sacks with 13, had 21 hurries and forced three fumbles.
LaGrange totaled 40 tackles (22 assists) and had 10 sacks. He also forced and recovered two fumbles.
Another Pio, Shea Zaunbrecher (51 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble), made the team at linebacker along with Kaplan’s K.C. Kass, Abbeville’s Isiah    Antoine and North Vermilion’s Terrence Lollis.
And  two other Pios, Hayden Bourgeois and Tyler Binder, were tabbed as two of the four defensive backs along with Kaplan’s Nigel Pascual and North Vermilion’s Seth Patin.
