Pios win jamboree contest; Lady Dogs fall short

LAFAYETTE – Tre Milstead scored 15 points Wednesday, leading the Notre Dame Pioneers to a 32-21 victory over Opelousas Catholic in the CASA Jamboree at Earl K. Long Gym.
Milstead scored seven of his game-high 15 points in the first half as the Pios took a 14-8 lead in the 10-minute period.
The Pios picked up the pace in the second half and outscored the Vikings 18-13 behind eight more points from Milstead. The senior guard also pulled down 12 rebounds on the night.
Hunter Meche added six points in the victory while Brent Didier had four and Jacob Leleux had three. Claiton Johnson and Bryce Brandon rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The Pios will be in action again on Monday when they open the regular season at Northside Christian. The jayvee contest is slated for 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
In other jamboree action, the Iota Lady Bulldogs dropped a 23-17 decision to Hanson.
Iota, competing without a number of players due to the volleyball playoffs, led early in the contest thanks to Madison Smith and Alexis St. Andre, who scored three points each in the first quarter.
Hanson, however, ended the half with three straight baskets to take an 11-7 advantage at the half.
The Lady Tigers connected on a pair of 3-pointers to start the second half and went on to outscore the Lady Dogs 12-10.
Brittany Johnson and St. Andre paced the Lady Dogs with five points each. Becca Fantroy followed with four points and Smith finished with three.
Iota opens the regular season Monday when they entertain Acadiana at 5:30 p.m.
