Prep Basketball Roundup: NCS' Wilson has big night
IOTA – Iota coach Meghann LeJeune was waiting for her Lady Bulldogs to have a breakout game following their 1-1 start in District 4-3A play.
And she got exactly that Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs (11-10, 2-1) placed three players in double figures and scored 21 or more points in each of the first three quarters in a 70-34 thumping of Jennings.
Jillian Boone, who is playing with a torn ACL, got the Lady Dogs going early with eight first quarter points as Iota jumped out to a quick 21-11 lead.
Things only got worse for the visitors from there.
Whitney Landry and Mallory Faul combined for 17 points in the second quarter and the Lady Dogs raced out to a commanding 46-16 lead at the break.
Landry wasn’t finished, however. She added eight more points in the third quarter and Iota went on a 22-7 run to take a 68-23 lead.
The Lady Dogs finally took their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter and were outscored 11-2.
Landry and Faul paced the Lady Dogs with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Boone followed with 11.
Landry also had seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals on the night

Jennings’ Draylan Perkins and D’Wayne Levi combined for 23 points in the first half to help the visitors take a 31-12 advantage at the break.
Iota (13-7, 0-1) connected on three 3-pointers in the third quarter, but Jennings was still able to outscore the Dogs 16-12.

Midland holds off
pesky Cardinals
MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels jumped out to an early lead and then fended off a late rally to escape with a 60-52 victory over Lacassine Friday evening.
Wearing wrist bands honoring former Rebel Andrew Hains, who is recovering in Lafayette General Hospital from serious injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident earlier in the week, the Rebels built up leads of as many as 16 points in improving to 18-5 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Randy Primeaux and Devin Gautreaux the Rebels started, combining for 14 points in the first quarter.
By the half, their lead was 10 points, 27-17 despite the efforts of Lacassine’s Alan Courville, who had 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 27.
Gautreaux went to work in the third quarter and poured in 11 of his team-high 24 points in the frame as the Rebels extended their cushion to 46--30, but even that lead wasn’t safe.
Courville led Lacassine on an ill-fated late run in the final quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and scoring 12 points to make it a game.
Dagan Patin helped thwart the rally by scoring eight of Midland’s 14 fourth quarter points.
Primeaux finished the night with 18 points and Patin had 12. Dylan Boudreaux added five points and Taatum Rubin had one.
Andy Ardoin was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 12 points while Tanner Pousson had eight.

The Lady Rebels (13-11, 2-1) trailed just 19-14 after the first quarter, but went cold from the floor in the second frame and scored just two points on a bucket from Bethany LeJeune.
Lacassine’s Madyson Brasseaux pumped in eight of her game-high 23 points during Midland’s drought and the Lady Cardinals took a 33-16 lead at the break.
Brasseaux was a one-man show as she poured in eight more points in the third quarter.

That, however, was as close as it would get.

The Gents (8-11, 0-4) cut into the lead in the third quarter when they outscored the Gators 23-12.
