Prep Roundup: Gents win pair in Westminster Tournament

OPELOUSAS – The Crowley Gents continued their impressive early-season run over the weekend by picking up a pair of victories in the Westminster Tournament.
The Gents topped Marksville, 6-2, on Friday and then beat St. Edmund, 7-3, on Saturday to improve to 12-2 on the season.
In both games, the Gents faced early deficits.
In the first game, the Gents trailed Marksville 2-1 after two innings before scoring five unanswered runs over the final four innings to earn the victory.
Ben Broussard was credited with the complete-game victory after giving up two runs on seven hits. He finished the day with 11 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Gents banged out 11 hits off two Marksville hurlers.
Alex Ashby, Zack Breaux and Andre Larry each had two hits while Pate Broussard, Haden Erbe, Bubba Daigle, Austin Duhon and Will Doughty each had one. Breaux also added two RBI while Pate Broussard, Larry, Daigle and Duhon each had one as well.
On Saturday, the Gents trailed 3-1 after the third inning before posting three runs in each the fourth and sixth innings.
Erbe earned the victory in relief after firing four scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and walked four while striking out nine.
Breaux and Jon Riley Mouton paced the Gents at the plate with two hits each. Breaux also drove in two runs.
Pate Broussard followed with one hit and three RBI. Ashby logged a double in the victory and Doughty had a single.
Pios split pair in
St. Amant tourney

ST. AMANT – The Notre Dame Pios ran their record to 9-7 after splitting a pair of games against some stiff competition on Saturday at the St. Amant Tournament.
The Pios dropped a 6-1 decision to Class 4A’s No. 8-ranked Benton before responding with a 3-2 victory over No. 5 St. Michael later in the day.
Against Benton, the Pios struggled to get anything going, stranding six base runners.
Dillan Gilbert and Nick Hanks each doubled in the contest with Gilbert picking up the Pios’ only RBI.
Taylor Faulk, Joe Faulk, Jacob Vicknair and Brad Stoma each had singles in the loss.
Gilbert suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering four runs on six hits in one inning of work. David Frank pitched six innings and allowed two runs on two hits and one walk.
Against St. Michael, Stoma came through in the top of the sixth inning  with an RBI single to left field that plated Jacques Thibodeaux, for the eventual game-winning run. Thibodeaux had also singled.
Joe Faulk, who earned the complete game victory on the mound, closed the door over the final two innings by allowing just one base runner on a walk.  He gave up just two hits on the day and walked one while striking out three.
Stoma had three hits and he drove in two runs in the victory. Sam Hoffpauir also logged three hits while Taylor Faulk, who tripled, Thibodeaux and Joe Faulk each had two. Thibodeaux also had an RBI.
CHS Ladies cruise
past Port Allen

CROWLEY – The Crowley Ladies took advantage of 12 walks, seven hit batters and two errors to cruise past Port Allen, 17-2, Saturday in a four-inning contest that was halted due to the mercy rule.
The Ladies (6-8) got a double by Maddie LeBouef, a triple from Hannah Hart and a single from LaShonda Delco in the victory. All three also picked up an RBI. Melaina Doughty also drove in a run.

Lady Dogs past Slidell

BRUSLY – McKenzie Armand was at it again over the weekend.
Iota’s senior power hitter delivered a two-run home run to right field to break a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning, sparking the Lady Dogs to a 7-3 victory over Slidell in the Brusly Tournament.
Armand finished with three hits, including the home run and a double. She also drove in three runs.
Cameron Crochet also had three hits while Becca Fantroy, Kate Stephens, Sarah Johnson and Lauren Miller had two hits each. Shydee Johnson, Aymslee Johnson and Rhi Stephens each finished with one hit.
Hanagriff home run
propels NCS to victory

ALEXANDRIA – Zera Hanagriff provided some late-inning heroics on Saturday when she drove a fastball over the left field wall for a 2-run home run in the ninth inning that gave the Lady Warriors a 5-3 extra inning victory over Pitkin in the Grace Christian Tournament.
Sydni Guidry had two hits on the day for the Warriors while Leah Monte, Meghan Jones and Zoie Hanagriff each had one. Monte also picked up an RBI in the victory.
