Welter in NFL with Bucs
Former Notre Dame and LSU standout linebacker DJ Welter accepted a free agent offer following the NFL football draft, and will attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ rookie minicamp this weekend in Tampa.
He started every game at middle linebacker for the 10-3 Tigers in 2013, and returned as the Tigers’ starter in 2014 following strong spring practices and fall camp. He was second on the team for LSU with 80 tackles in 2013, and added another 35 in his senior season.
The 2010 Notre Dame grad was one of the top linebacker prospects in Louisiana upon his graduation. He was also ranked as one of the nation’s top 50 outside linebackers by both Rivals.com and ESPN.com. He was a member of the SuperPrep Southwest Team, the Times-Picayune Blue-Chip List, and the Baton Rouge Advocate Super Dozen, and was the Louisiana Class 3A Outstanding Defensive Player in 2009 when the Pios won another state championship.
