UPDATE: Road closures and more announced as Acadia Parish floods

ACADIA PARISH - The weather in Acadia Parish went from bad to worse overnight as a stalled front dumped over 10 inches of rain in some parts of the parish.

Reports of flooding have come from throughout the parish, even in parts where flooding normally does not occur.

As of now, trash pickup has been suspended in the parish for today.

The Acadia Parish Courthouse has also been closed.

All schools, public and private, have closed for the day due to the weather.

Sandbags are available in the parish at the Acadia Parish Barns in Branch, Iota, Crowley from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

Numerous roads have also closed in the parish as water has seeped onto the highways. The following roads have been closed according to Louisiana State Police, Troop I:

LA 35 north of Church Point

LA 35 south of Church Point

LA 370 near LA 13

LA 92 west of LA 13

LA 98 near LA 3070

US 90 between Crowley and Esterwood

US 90 between Rayne and Crowley

This list does not include many rural area roads that are also underwater.

LSP is urging motorists if they do not have to get on the roads today to not do so. Furthermore, if you come across a road that has water on it, please do not proceed as it is impossible to tell how deep the water gets on the road.

All road closures by Troop I have the expectation of being closed for more than two hours due to the water.

Rain continues to be in the forecast throughout the morning, with local meteorologists expecting the rain to start moving away from Acadiana by this afternoon.
