Lois T. Andrus

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Bethel C.M.E. Church for Lois T. Andrus, 82, who died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Southwind Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Crowley.
Services will be conducted by Rev. George R. Chretian and Rev. Nerma Chretian.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
She was a faithful member of Bethel C.M.E. Church from 1959 until her death. She was a graduate of Mound Bayou High School. After graduation from high school, she attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. Lois further study was at USL in Lafayette and LSU in Baton Rouge.
While at Bethel C.M.E. Church, she was the president of Stewardess Board No. 3 from 1973-1986 and 1988; pianist for the Sanctuary Choir beginning in 1984; district director of Christian Education (Crowley District) from 1981-1987; president of the Missionary Society for 25 plus years, and was the superintendent of the Sunday School from 1983 until her illness. Lois was also vice president of Church Women United from 1985-1986.
Lois was a charter member of Crowley Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, president of the sorority from 1983-1985 and 1999-2001; P.A Federal Credit Union treasurer from 1984 until closing.
She taught school in both Jeff Davis Parish and Acadia Parish for more than 26 years and retired in Acadia Parish in May 1982. Lois also taught at the Louisiana Vocational Technical School here in Crowley. She was the treasurer for the Retired Teachers Association in 1986.
The family of Lois T. Andrus would like to express their gratitude to each of you for your support, prayers, and words of comfort expressed during her illness and hour of need. A special thanks to Ms. Darcael Lewis, Ms. Jackie Martin, and the dedicated staff at Southwind Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lafayette General Medical Center – Acadia and Lafayette Campuses, Lamm Home Health Care, and Dr. Saini Satinder.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Andrus; two sons, Michael Joseph Andrus Sr. (Charlesetta) of Lafayette and Gaylon Maurice Andrus (Sharon) of Crowley; four grandchildren, Brandon Gerard, Christopher Lawrence, Brennan Maurice and Jessica Nicole; three great-grandsons, Jaxon Eli, Branson Michael and Colston Robert; one sister, Edna Lewis (John) of Chicago, Illinois; four close friends, Grace Brown, Cozette Wilson, Darcael Lewis and Jackie Martin; two former daughters-in-law, Dawana Andrus and Corita Andrus; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Beatrice Crawford-Thurmond Sr.; four brothers, Lavern “Scooby” Thurmond, Maurice C. Thurmond, Charles Livingston Thurmond Sr. and Cornelius V. Thurmond Jr.; and one grandson, Michael Andrus Jr.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, at Bethel C.M.E. Church from 8:30 a.m. until 10:55 a.m.
