Notre Dame, Iota log volleyball victories

BALDWIN – The Notre Dame Lady Pios continued their dominance in district play with a pair of 3-0 victories over West St. Mary Monday.
The Lady Pios improved to 31-5 overall and 7-0 in league play with the victory heading into last night’s district finale against Catholic of New Iberia. Results from that contest were not available at press time.
In Monday’s doubleheader, the Lady Pios were led by Lindsey Meyer with 18 kills (nine in each game). She also had eight digs, two aces and four blocks.
Alex Miller, Sam Lyons and Anne Faulk each logged seven kills. Miller also had 26 assists, 19 digs and one ace; Lyons had 11 assists, 18 digs, four aces and one block and Faulk added six digs and one ace.
Also contributing in the victory were Laura Schmid (2 kills, 3 digs), Paityn Desselle (1 kill, 4 assists, 2 digs), Alli Daigle (19 digs, 4 aces), Gabbie Romero (11 digs, 7 aces), Olivia Barbin (3 digs) and Sammi Leger (8 assists, 1 dig, 10 aces).
In Division III, Iota (31-7, 10-1) claimed a 3-0 non-district victory over Iowa.
Madison Meche led the Lady Dogs with 15 kills, two digs and two aces.
She was followed by Mallory Faul, Madison Benoit and Erika Manuel with five kills each and Brittany Roy with three. Whitney Landry added two kills while Jillian Boone and Sydney Hebert each had one.
Faul also led the team in assists with 29 to go along with two aces. Boone recorded 26 digs and Hebert had three aces.
The Lady Dogs closed out the regular season last night with a road contest at league-leading Teurlings. Results of that contest were not available at press time.
Other Action
The Northside Christian Lady Warriors dropped a 3-0 decision to league champion Academy of Sacred Heart last week.
The loss sent the Lady Warriors to 16-11 overall and 3-2 in district play heading into last night’s league finale.
Crowley High, according to the LHSAA website, is currently 7-20 overall and 1-7 in league play. They took on North Vermilion last night and will play host to Beau Chene on Thursday to close out the regular season.
Unfortunately, neither Northside Christian nor Crowley High has submitted any information to the Post-Signal on their games during the 2013 season.
