Accused murderer's trial postponed

The second-degree murder trial for Allen M. Frank, 20, of Eunice has been rescheduled.

Frank is accused of the Aug. 11, 2008, shooting death of Dwayne Lewis, 27, also of Eunice.

Jury selection for Frank was scheduled March 3 but that and the trial date was postponed until July 7.

The defense moved for the continuance, over objection from the District Attorney’s Office, and it was granted by Judge Alonzo Harris.

Frank was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. on Aug. 13 at his mother’s Eunice residence.

Police received a call at 7:34 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, saying a shooting had occurred on South Beulah and that the victim wasn’t breathing.

According to detectives, responding officers and ambulance personnel found Lewis dead of a gunshot wound to his back and after investigation obtained a warrant for Frank.

Lewis was involved in a disturbance behind the Police Department building about 6:15 p.m. on the Monday he was killed. He allegedly beat a woman who, the record indicates, was taken to the hospital by family members.

About 7:30, Frank, among a group, encountered him at 241 South Beulah and allegedly fired several shots at Lewis.

Frank, initially held on a first-degree murder charge, was indicted in October on the second-degree charge.
