Arrests made from multiple drug offenses

Rayne Police officers arrested Jeremy George for multiple drug offenses after receiving calls regarding reckless driving. On March 19, 2009, at 10:40 p.m., the Rayne Police Department received complaints of Jeremy George driving recklessly in the John Drive area.

Upon the officers’ arrival and making contact with Jeremy George, they learned that he had an outstanding warrant with the Rayne City Court. 

When George was arrested, he had multiple controlled dangerous substances without the proper prescription in his possession.

Jeremy Joseph George, born 7/16/80, 609 Ike Street, Rayne, LA 70578, was arrested and charged with: Possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession of a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance and possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance.  Jeremy George was released on bond and is awaiting trial.

Chief Carroll Stelly states that “the public’s help is always needed and appreciated. We need everyone’s assistance in keeping our streets safe. You never know when a simple call regarding reckless driving can result in the apprehension of a felon.”

In an unrelated incident, officers with the Rayne Police Department executed a search warrant which resulted in the arrest of Layton Hamilton AKA “Half-A-Man” for multiple drug offenses.

On March 21, 2009, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Rayne Police Officers executed a search warrant on the residence of 611 East A School Street in Rayne, LA. Officers located rock cocaine and marijuana with an estimated street value of $845.00.  

Officers arrested Layton Deonne “Half-a-Man” Hamilton, B/M, Dob 3/15/1984, 611 East A School Street, Rayne, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine – 2nd Offense, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana – 2nd Offense, Money Derived from Drug Transactions, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hamilton is currently on parole with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.  Due to his situation, no bail has been set at the time of this press release. 

Chief Carroll Stelly stated “drug recidivism is a major problem in our community.  Over 90% of our drug offenses are conducted by repeat offenders.  We are working with District Attorney Mike Harson to address this issue and make our streets safe for our children.  We will continue our aggressive efforts to arrest those who target our community with these dangerous substances.”
