The Evangeline Parish Sales/Use Tax Commission saw what Administrator Mike Veillon called “a lot of red,” in the comparison of collections report during its meeting Wednesday, January 28.

Veillon said all taxing bodies were in the red except for Ville Platte and Mamou when comparing December 2007 with December 2008. Collections for the parish as a whole were down $76,848.35 or 4.653 percent. However, Veillon said it was not all bad news, as the numbers for January appeared to be much better. That full comparison of collections report would be available for the commission’s next meeting.

The board also heard from Auditor Winston Ardoin, who gave another update on tax collections from the Pine Prairie Energy Center project (PPEC). He said over the last month, approximately $62,000 was collected from the project, bringing the total taxes collected to $6,682,921.
