Derek (Decky) Gibson

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Starlight Baptist Church, with Rev. Lloyd Joiner, Jr. officiating, for Derek (Decky) Gibson, who died on December 1, 2012.

Visitation was held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2, Rayne.

Derek (Decky) Gibson was born on April 5, 1962 to the late Anthony Gibson and Irene Gibson of Rayne. Derek was married to Jeanne Rochon on November 24, 1995. Together they shared 17 beautiful years together that was filled with love and laughter. Derek was a devoted husband and father of two children. At the time of his death, Derek was employed with Wal-Mart.

Derek lived in Rayne all of his life. He was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Church and attended Rayne High School. His hobbies were hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was an excellent electrician and enjoyed helping anyone he could. Everyone he met he touched in a special way.

Derek was preceded in death by his daughter, Alyssa Blaire Gibson; his parents, Anthony and Irene Gibson; his grandparents, Curtis and Viola Gibson and Charles and Annie Guidry; his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Rochon; his brothers-in-law, Sheldon, Theodora (T.J.) and Freddie Rochon and Bruce Orebo; his sisters-in-law, Hilda Henderson, Theresa Dugas and Betty Rochon.

Derek leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Jeanne Rochon Gibson; his son, Romy Gibson; his stepdaughters, Dana Rochon, all of Rayne; Amy Young (Raphael) of Fairburn, GA and Ashley (Matthew) Gruenau of Lithia Springs, Florida; his granddaughter, Aubree Jade Gabriel; his brothers and sister, Anthony Gibson, Jr. of Richmond, CA., Katrick Gibson and Daniel T. Gibson of Pleasant Hill, CA., Gregory Gibson of Rayne, and Keenan Gibson of Pleasant Hill, CA; aunts and uncles, Joseph Gibson of Rayne, Ophelia Marie Augustine (Joseph) of Martinez, CA, Evelyn Joyce Roy (Henry) of Beaumont, TX, Myrtle Gibson of Martinez, CA, Aquator Sullivan (Ben) of Richmond, CA, Eva (Suzie) Charles (Ezzie) of Rayne, Larry Gibson(Carol) of Houston, Carl Gibson (Brigid) of Rayne, Charlene Martin of Martinez, CA, Don Gibson (Beth) of Martinez, CA, Kathy Gibson of Martinez, CA, Erlean Gibson of Crowley, LA; brothers-in-law Buddy, Jerome, Claude (Catherine) Rochon and Felton Charcher; sister-in-laws, Audrey (John) Broussard, Claudette Rochon, Vickie Orebo, Diane Rochon, Brigid (Carl) Gibson and Ingrid (Alvin) Lalone and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were LeDeria Charles, Terrance Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, Chad Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Joshua Francis and Christopher Roy.

Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Gibson, Daniel Gibson, Gregory Gibson, Keenan Gibson, Gregory Haynes, Romy Gibson, Randy Gibson, Wilford

“Smokey” Gibson, Carl Gibson, Larry Gibson, and Don Gibson.

Wilturner Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.
