Catch The Alley Cats Monday at the Grand

BY: ANN MIRE, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Take your poodle skirt and bowling shirts out of mothballs and join the doo wop group The Alley Cats at the Grand Opera House of the South on Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. for a great evening of 1950s musical entertainment.

With humor and harmonies, this a cappella group will bring back great memories of doo wop tunes from the 1950s musical scene.

The Alley Cats had their first professional show at Disneyland’s “Blast to the Past.” Since then, they have appeared on TV, fairs, festivals and schools, as well as a USO show on an aircraft carrier that welcomed troops home from Iraq.

The touring group includes many members, so that multiple shows can be performed on the same day. A majority of the Cats have been with the group for over 10 years. Formed on the campus of Fullerton College in California in 1987, founding members still with the group include Mando Fonseca, Royce Reynolds and Todd Dixon. Other members who may appear in Crowley are John O’Campo, Michael Washington, Brian Brigham, Brandon Brigham, Todd Fournier, Tonoccus McClain, Frank Romeo, Chris Kauffmann and Grant Hendrickson.

Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Grand’s office at 785-0440 or visiting the website thegrandoperahouse.org. Prices range from $20 to $35.
