‘Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler’ gala continues to grow in popularity

CROWLEY – The city of Crowley’s first unofficial beginning to the Mardi Gras celebrations continues to grow in popularity and attendance.

The Crowley Art Association’s annual “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” gala drew another large crowd with good food, great art and a mini Mardi Gras run.

Held Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Gallery in Crowley, the gala featured the courirs of the Krewe de Bien Foo entertaining the crowd and the art of 15 accomplished artists. Artworks are currently on display from Robert Baxter, Sylvia Broussard, Claire Decker, Virginia Duson, Lyn Fontenot, Faye Hoffpauir, Paula Jacobi, Edesse Leger, Rosslyn Moore, Yvonne Seneca-Foreman, Carol Trahan, Lou and Dale Trahan, Drewey Trumps and Phyllis Welch.

But it wasn’t just the high quality of art that drew a large crowd, it was the fun entertainment and delicious food as well.

Complete with king cake, of course, the Mardi Gras “feast” featured two gumbos, potato salad, cake, pie and an assortment of other goodies.

The night also featured a special presentation to Lou and Dale Trahan, who were not only featured artists, but also led the charge of participating Mardi Gras runners at the annual event. The Crowley Art Association voted to honor the two with a gift at the show. Painted by Baxter, the painting, simply named “Respect,” depicts the two at a Mardi Gras run together years ago. The painting was unveiled during the show.

As an added bonus, and as in years past, the money the courirs of Krewe de Bien Foo collected during their Mardi Gras begging hijinks went back to the Crowley Art Association.

The show will remain on display for the remainder of February and can be viewed by the public free of charge any time during The Gallery’s normal business hours.

Many of the pieces from the show, as well as other paintings, are on sale for the public to purchase and add to their art collections.
