Hensgens, Boudreaux exchange wedding vows

Couple to reside in Lafayette following music-filled Nuptial Mass at St. John Cathedral

Liesl Clare Hensgens and Reed Michael Boudreaux were united in Holy Matrimony on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist.

The Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Father Mark Derise with Father Jason Vidrine concelebrating. Serving at the altar were Samuel Jacob Frank and Julian Anthony Guidry.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Landry Hensgens of Gueydan. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Stritch Trahan of Crowley and the late Glady Joseph Trahan and the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Louis Hensgens.

Liesl is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. She is employed at C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin “Buddy” Boudreaux of Jeanerette. His grandparents are Roselyn Boudreaux of Jeanerette and the late Dr. Nelson C. Boudreaux and Mr. and Mrs. William Reed of Okalona, Mississippi.

Reed is a graduate of Catholic High of New Iberia and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He is employed at Royal Engineering and Consultants.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was lovely in an ivory Allure gown featuring a lace overlay neckline, beaded belt and cathedral train. Her lace trimmed veil cascaded softly to full length.

For the traditional something old and borrowed, Liesl wore an opal ring belonging to her late grandmother, Doris Hensgens. Something new was a pearl necklace and bracelet which were a wedding gift from the groom. Liesl’s mother designed her blue garter featuring lace hand tatted by the bride’s great grandmother and a Saint Clare medal blessed by Pope Francis. She carried a bouquet of white hydrangea, baby’s breath and greenery.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was Erin Elizabeth Saal, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Adrienne Claire Trahan, cousin of the bride; Bonnie Elizabeth Boudreaux, sister of the groom; Julie Diane Collins, friend of the bride and groom; and Chantelle Freeman Stubbs, friend of the bride.

Attending the groom as best man was Gordon Doerle, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Alex Dubois, Thomas Gary and Craig Girouard, friends of the groom; and Matthew Babineaux, friend of the bride and groom.

Ushering guests were the bride’s brothers, Nicholas Hans Hensgens, Stephen Keith Hensgens, Gabriel John Hensgens, Matthew Joseph Hensgens and John Peter Hensgens. Zachary Paul Hensgens, nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer.

Readers were Harrison Hymel, friend of the groom, and Joshua Doguet, friend of the bride. Prayers of the Faithful were read by William Chastant, friend of the groom. The gifts were presented by Jennifer Cornelius Hensgens and Blanche Lacombe Hensgens, sisters-in-law of the bride. Serving as Eucharistic Ministers were M’elise Beslin Trahan, aunt of the bride, and Annette Boudreaux Milligan, aunt of the groom.

Sacred musical selections were offered by Tom Niel, organist; Raymond Hebert, vocalist; Lauren Baker, violinist; and Dr. Paul Morton, trumpeter. Their program included “May the Lord Bless Us,” “Lord, Bless the Souls,” “Panis Angelicus” and “Maria zu Lieben.”

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at Hotel Acadiana. The registration table was covered with an heirloom tablecloth from the 1939 Eucharistic Congress held Dublin, Ireland, belonging to the bride’s grandmother, Mary Trahan. The table held pictures of the bride and groom and wedding pictures of their parents and grandparents.

Guest tables were interestingly decorated with floral arrangements using silver and crystal belonging to the bride’s and groom’s families.

The cake tables were covered with tablecloths handmade by the bride’s great-grandmother. The groom’s cake replicated a bridge depicting the groom’s profession.

As the bride danced, she carried a handmade beaded and embroidered purse made for her by her grandmother, Doris Hensgens, which she carried her First Communion Day.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Bailey’s Restaurant the evening before the wedding.

After a wedding trip to Costa Rica, the newly married couple will reside in Lafayette.
