Jessica Hannah Simmons weds Robert-Thomas Johnson

Jessica Hannah Simmons and Robert-Thomas Johnson were united in marriage on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Lafayette. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Steve Horn, pastor of First Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Simmons of Lafayette. Her mother is the former Gizell O’Quinn. She is the granddaughter of Jimmy and Edna Simmons and the late Marjorie Bogue Simmons of Longview, Texas. Maternal grandparents are Beverly Crawford O’Quinn and the late Lavern Rutherford of Lafayette, and Jeannene O’Quinn Greenhalgh and the late James Gary O’Quinn of Houston, Texas.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson of Rayne. His mother is the former Bonnie Melancon. He is the grandson of Jasper and Matilda Johnson and the late Leo and Rita Melancon, all of Rayne.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, Hannah wore an exquisite Allure Bridals ivory ball gown. The princess-style design was completed with a gauzy tulle skirt topped with an English lace bodice and finished in a flattering V-neck line. The full sheer back was embroidered with silver beading in a very detailed and elegant lace pattern. She carried a loosely arranged oval bouquet of sweet akito roses, orange and burgundy dahlias, butterscotch daisy poms and soft pink garden roses finished with twine wrapped stems.
Traditional items selected by the bride for her wedding day included a diamond dinner ring from the groom’s grandmother as something old, her wedding dress was something new, a handkerchief from the bride’s great-grandmother was borrowed, and sapphire earrings was something blue, along with a sixpence from Scotland in her shoe.
The bride’s sister-in-law, Jamie Simmons, served as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Helen Hebert, Kirsti Ortego, Lauren Livings and Kaitlyn Trahan, friends of the bride, and Karris Toups, sister of the groom.
Bridal attendants wore floor-length gowns of navy lace and underlining. The bodice was completed with a flattering V-shaped back while the skirt of navy chiffon was adorned with a silk waistband. Each carried a cluster of fall daisies, gerber daisies and eucalyptus.
The groom’s niece, Tenni Jo Toups served as flower girl. She wore a sleeveless, tea-length dress of ivory English tulle accented at the waist with a back-side bow while carrying a floral pomander of Fangio Easter lilies and orange blooms.
John Reynolds attended his friend as best man.
Groomsmen were Corey Albert, Taylor Nickel and Sam Bennett, friends of the groom; Hunter Simmons, brother of the bride; and Tim Johnson, cousin of the groom.
Ring bearers were Butch and Hodges Toups, nephews of the groom, and Whitt Simmons, nephew of the bride. Each wore blue and ivory plaid shirts with suspenders and orange bowties.
Guests were ushered to their seats by the groom’s cousins, Blaine Hooper and Jonathan Melancon.
Male attendants wore slate blue tuxedoes and their lapels were noted with boutonnieres of rice and orange pom poms. In addition, the groom wore the bowtie of the late Leo Melancon, his maternal grandfather.
Readers for the ceremony were Megan Simmons, cousin of the bride, and Kathryn Taylor, godmother of the groom. Serving as a greeter was Emily Johnson, godchild of the groom.
Musical selections were provided by Josh and Lana Carver, guitar and vocals; Sharon Ringo, organ and piano; and Neil Simon, trumpet.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the Crown Room of the Lafayette Event Center. A rustic theme was noted throughout the reception area.
The bride’s table, featuring a background of rustic hardwood, lace and burlap, was centered with a four-tier ivory buttercream confection accented with fresh flowers and set upon a cedar stump designed by the groom’s father.
The groom’s table, which featured a New Orleans Saints decor, was a unique fleur de lis King Cake. It was served by Kathryn Taylor and Brenda Hooper, godmothers of the groom.
Prior to the wedding, the groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner on Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Sceptor Room of the Lafayette Event Center where guests enjoyed pork and sausage jambalaya with all the trimmings.
After returning from a honeymoon in Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, Canada, the couple will reside in Lafayette.
Hannah is a 2009 graduate of Lafayette High School and a 2013 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is currently employed by the Matthew Aaron Agency as a social media director.
Robert is a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish in Crowley, attended SLCC and ULL, and is employed by Central Control, LLC.
