Traditional bridal shower fetes bride-elect Barbier

Family and friends of bride-elect Emily Ann Barbier of Crowley gathered on Saturday, Nov. 10, for a traditional all-ladies bridal shower to celebrate Emily’s engagement to Taylor Michael Ducote of Lafayette.

The early afternoon shower was hosted by Jennifer Barbier, Catherine Johnson, Christy Saia, Kara Olivier, Andrea Joubert, Jessica Landry, Sharon Saia, Lisa Romero, Beth Cart and Korie Hamilton.

The residence was decorated for the shower with feminine pink roses, pink and pearl balloons and photographs of the engaged couple.

For the occasion, Emily selected a delicate Jessica Simpson tiered lace dress in black and white. A personalized handcrafted pin embellished with hearts took the place of a corsage.

The mother of the bride-to-be, Ruth Barbier, chose a boat neck navy blue sheath dress, and the mother of the prospective groom, Elaine Ducote, was clad in a pink blouse paired with navy blue slacks.

In place of corsages, both mothers wore personalized handcrafted pins embellished with flowers.

Guests enjoyed finger foods, punch and coffee. For dessert, the hostesses served a classic white bridal shower cake with strawberry filling.

Special guests honored at the shower included Shirley Griffin and Lou Barbier, grandmothers of the bride-elect; Gloria Saintes and Cookie Ducote, grandmothers of the prospective groom; and Ivy Ortego, great-grandmother of the groom.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Ruth and Charles Barbier of Crowley. Her maternal grandparents are Shirley Griffin and the late Dr. James Griffin, and her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Barbier, all of Crowley. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Onedas Leger of Crowley.

The prospective groom is the son of Elaine and Vince Ducote of New Iberia. He is the grandson of Cookie and Bert Ducote, Gloria Saintes and the late Benny Saintes, the late Elsie Barras and the late Marvis Barras Sr., all of New Iberia. He is the great-grandson of Mrs. Ivy Ortego of Ville Platte.

Emily and Taylor will be wed Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley. Fr. Mark Miley will officiate the 6:30 p.m. nuptials.

Following their wedding, the couple plans to reside in Lafayette.
