Afternoon baby shower honors Melissa D. Thibault

 

Mrs. Tyler Thibault of Box Elder, South Dakota, the former Melissa Doucet of Rayne, was honored during a baby shower held at the home of her parents, Malcolm and Margaret Doucet of Rayne, maternal grandparents-to-be.

Paternal grandparents-to-be are Beth and Hayden Wren of New Orleans and Rudy Thibault of Harvey.

Serving as hosts for the afternoon social were Margaret Doucet, mother of the mother-to-be; Beth Wren, mother of father-to-be; Anette Simon, godmother of mother-to-be; and a number of sisters and sisters-in-law including Mary-Kathryn D. McGuffee, Annette O. Simon, Maggie Doucet, Margaret L. Doucet, Marci D. McGovern, Beth D. Wren, Lauren Thibault and Margaret G. Doucet.

Among the refreshments provided for guests were monogrammed and shower-inspired cookies, white chocolate-dipped pretzels, cookies and strawberries, petit fours, chicken salad sandwiches, peppered fig jam, cheeseball, cucumber sandwiches, chicken wraps, goat cheese/fig/proscuitto wraps, meat pies, roasted pecans, a number of beverages, and a special king cake in honor of Tyler’s hometown of New Orleans.

The Doucet home was adorned with three-dimensional hot air balloons, airplane decor, and the baby’s name was displayed in wooden letters atop the front entry way fireplace. The door welcomed guests with a Winnie the Pooh quote, “A grand adventure is about to begin.”

Guests signed in by leaving a message for Baby Thibault inside Dr. Suess’ “Oh, The Places You’ll G.,” As an added interest, guests were asked to leave a late-night message on diapers to make the couple smile while changing diapers in the middle of the night. Baby onesies, given as gifts, were monogrammed and displayed on blue chips hanging from the kitchen fireplace and used as centerpieces on the food tables.

For the special occasion, Melissa wore a royal blue sundress styled with an empire waist. She was presented a blue baby boy corsage.

Approximatelt 40 guests were in attendance from Rayne, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Morgan City and New Orleans.

Special guests in attendance were Dorothy O. Leger, maternal great-grandmother-to-be, and Joan Davis, paternal great-grandmother-to-be.

The new family addition, the couple’s first child, is expected to arrive on October 2, 2014.

The father-to-be, Tyler was deployed in Oatar as an airman with the United States Air Force since January, but just arrived home on Aug. 10th for the baby’s arrival.
