2013 Homecoming theme is 'A Night in New Orleans'

Iota High School will celebrate Homecoming 2013 with the theme “A Night in New Orleans.”

Students at Iota High will celebrate the week with lunch time class competitions and dress-up days.

The schedule for such days and competitions is as follows:

• Monday, Sept. 30: Pajama Day and gross cake eating contest. Students can wake up and come to school wearing their most comfy pajama pants, shirts and slippers and bring along blankies and teddy bears for a relaxing day. At lunch, teams will compete in the cake eating contest. Team members will tag out to see who can eat the most cake in a 3-minute time span, and the team that collectively eats the most cake wins. The catch? The cake will be filled with yummy ingredients like mustard, tuna and beans.

• Tuesday, Oct. 1: Generation Day and the balance beam competition. Students can show their Bulldog spirit by dressing up as their favorite age of life–baby or toddler, an adult in career attire or an elderly person still cheering their favorite team on, for example. At lunch, each class will choose one girl and one boy to stand on a balance beam and, using a pool noodle, they must “fight” to stay on the beam. Once a team member falls off the beam, the second member must take his/her place. The winner is the student who remains on the beam in the final round, with several rounds to determine first through fourth place.

• Wednesday, Oct. 2: Character/Animal Day and tug-of-war. Sure to confuse the Kinder Yellowjackets, students will dress up as their favorite characters or animals from any TV show, book or movie. At lunch, each class chooses five boys and five girls for the tug-of-war competition with several rounds to determine first through fourth place.

• Thursday, Oct. 3: Louisiana Day and obstacle course competition. Support for the Bulldogs and Louisiana will be shown as students can dress in their favorite Louisiana sports team attire, in camouflage, as a reality show character (i.e., Duck Dynasty or Swamp People) or in Mardi Gras attire. During lunch, each class will choose one boy and one girl to compete in an obstacle course of physical challenges. The team with the best combined time wins.

• Friday, Oct. 4: Maroon and Gold Day and dog bone relay. The colors maroon and gold will be everywhere at Iota High Friday with a 2 p.m. homecoming pep rally at Bulldogs Stadium. There, the homecoming court will be introduced and escorted by senior members of the football team. Classes will also compete in the dog bone relay Friday.

Thursday will additionally see Iota’s homecoming parade, which starts at St. Joseph Catholic Church and rolls through Main Street beginning at 6 p.m. The parade will feature members of the homecoming court, football team, cheerleading squad and danceline, the Iota High band and each class, as well as local officials and feeder school groups.

Culminating the week will be the Bulldogs’ football game Friday night against the Kinder Yellowjackets. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium and, at halftime, the court will be recognized and a homecoming queen will be crowned.

Saturday, Iota High’s school gym will host the “A Night in New Orleans” homecoming dance from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
