American Legion Acadia Post 15 honors local teacher, deputy, student

 

American Legion Acadia Post 15 took the opportunity to recognize several outstanding community members at its Wednesday, Jan. 21, meeting.

The post presented the Educator of the Year Award to Sara Mouton, a fourth grade teacher at South Crowley Elementary.

Mouton’s selection was based on her professional career, participation in community service activities, family values and education honors, awards and letters of recognition.

Hunter Lambert, a senior at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, was named the Oratorical Contest winner. Participants were required to write and present a 10-minute speech on the Constitution without notes, as well as a three-minute speech on the Bill of Rights. Lambert will participate in the district competition at Rayne Post 77 on Feb. 15.

Lambert is president of his school’s Campus Ministry/Interact Club, treasurer of the school drama club and a member of the 4-H and Beta Clubs. He has been enrolled as a student in the Acadia Parish Gifted-Talented music program for six years and plays with the  University of Louisiana at Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.

Tyler Broussard, a detective with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, was presented with the Law Man of the Year Award.

Broussard is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Police Academy, where he Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification. He is also a member of the Louisiana Homicide Investigators Association.
