Attakapas Study Club enjoys annual Christmas luncheon, social

The Attakapas Study Club of Crowley met on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at the home of Ethel Thibodeaux for its annual Christmas social.
Fifteen members, including one new member, and one guest were on hand for the event.
President Barbara Lengefeld called the meeting to order and welcomed the new member, JoAnne Arnaud, and the guest, June Hupp. The Pledge of Allegiance and club collect were led by Parliamentarian Joanna Pruitt. The secretary, Gerry Meche, called the roll and read the minutes of the November meeting, and the treasurer, Jackie Buescher, gave the treasurer’s report.
The members then decided to make the club’s annual charitable donation to Faith House, after which the president thanked the hostesses of the social, Thibodeaux, Bettie Duhon, Mae Prather, and Jackie Keyes, for their efforts. Lengefeld also co-hosted.
Following the adjournment of the business portion of the meeting, Roy Lynn Trahan, program chairman, introduced the meeting’s program, “Poets in Training.” The warm-up was a game called “Poetry in Christmas Songs,” which taxed the memories of those in attendance.
Additionally, the members of the club had been asked to write an original poem or submit one that was meaningful to them. Trahan used the poems to assemble a booklet for each member containing all of the poems. All enjoyed sharing time as each member read her poem.
Afterward, the group participated in singing a “Cajun version” of the 12 days of Christmas, beginning with a wild duck in a fig tree and ending with 12 bowls of cush cush, before playing a game to exchange gifts.
The group finished the social with a delicious meal consisting of Thibodeaux’s famous soup and ham and side dishes and desserts prepared by the hostesses.
