The Attakapas Study Club of Crowley met on April 13 at the home of Jackie Keyes.
There were 18 members present, including JoAnne Arnaud, Erma Breaux, Jackie Buescher, Bettie Duhon, Jerrie Fontenot, Shirley Griffin, June Hupp, Jackie Keyes, Barbara Lengefeld, Bonnie Matirne, Gerry Meche, Mae Prather, Joanna Pruitt, Elizabeth Regan, Dot Simon, Jeri Stevenson, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan.
President Lengefeld called the meeting to order, and welcomed Hupp as a new member.
Pruitt, the parliamentarian, led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the club collect, after which the secretary, Meche, called the roll and read the minutes of the March meeting. The treasurer, Buescher gave the financial report.
Trahan, chairman of the program committee, reminded members that the last meeting of the club year, the annual picnic and planning, will be held in May at Pruitt’s camp in Lake Arthur. The telephone committee gave a report and Dot Simon reported for the courtesy committee.
The members voted to make a monetary donation to the American Legion Auxiliary to support the Girl’s State program. The club will also donate a book to the library in memory of Jean Oubre, a member who died on March 28.
Following the business portion of the meeting, Keyes to presented a program entitled “Bangles & Beads.” Keyes spoke about one of her hobbies – making jewelry. She pointed out that jewelry has been around for more than 5,000 years, and that as amazing as it may seem, some of the same materials and designs are still in use.
Keyes impressed the group by making many new pieces of jewelry from stones, wire and other items that she had on hand. The new jewelry was passed around, as were many of the beautiful pieces that she has designed through the years. Keyes ended her program by giving each person present the materials needed to make a necklace.
Following the program, refreshments were served by Matirne.
