Auditions for ‘The Nutcracker’ set for Sept. 6-7

Lafayette Ballet Theatre is seeking area dancers for its production of the full-length holiday classic “The Nutcracker,” to be performed with Principal dancers from the Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Available roles in Act I include male and female children/adults for the Party Scene and soldiers and rats for the Battle Scene. Act II roles include angels, candy canes, peppermints, polichinelles and all Land of the Sweets variations.

Roles in Snow scenes and Waltz of the Flowers are open to qualified advanced level female dancers, with pointe shoes required.

Auditions are open to students ages eight and older who have had one full year of training in ballet and are currently studying ballet in an established dance program.

Auditions will be held on Saturday. Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7.

Auditions on Sept. 6 will be for 15-year-old students through professional-level dancers and will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Lafayette Ballet Theatre, 100 Pillette Road.

On Sept. 7, students ages eight through 10 (beginner to immediate level) will audition from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Students ages 11 through 14 (intermediate to advanced level) will audition from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and tumblers (intermediate to advanced level) will audition from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. All auditions on that day will take place at Angelle Hall on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.

Dress is ballet attire.

The audition fee is $25, and participants should bring exact change or a check made payable to Lafayette Ballet Theatre. The audition fee is only for dancers ages eight through 18, and no addition fee is required for tumblers.
