Barousse speaks to Les Dames Acadienne

The members of Les Dames Acadienne gathered for a meeting on Wednesday, March 11, at the Acadia Parish Library at 1 p.m.

President Betty Miller called the meeting to order, followed by the members reciting the club collect and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The speaker for the meeting was Acadia Parish Clerk of Court Robert T. “Robby” Barousse, who gave a presentation on how the court clerk’s office handles records for passports, divorces, marriages and many other types of court business. The club presented Barousse with a cake in thanks for his participation.

A donation was collected for the Miles Perret Cancer Center. Additionally, as a civic project, the members agreed to make a donation to the Acadia Parish Library.

Willie Mae Dailey reported on the annual trip taken by the club in April. There will be 11 members and 10 guests in attendance, and they will travel to New Iberia for the day. Planned stops include Shadows on the Teche, the Rodrigue exhibit at the Teche Museum and Jefferson Island.

Following Dailey’s report, officers were elected for the coming club year. They include Betty Miller, president; Janis Coignard, first vice-president; Willie Mae Dailey, second vice-president; Bonnie Gaspard, secretary; and Lois Richard, treasurer.

The members then engaged in the “Show and Tell” portion of the meeting.

The door prize, a plant, was won by Clarice Boullion.

Upon conclusion of the business portion of the meeting, sandwiches and other refreshments were served by hostesses Lucille Chisholm and Cynthia Kratzer.
