The Crowley High School Music Dept. recently held its Spring 2015 Concert, playing before a packed house.
For the Monday, May 18, show, the concert band and guard members were dressed in a laid-back luau style. And, before the concert, those in attendance were treated to a red-beans-and-rice dinner, along with dessert, prepared and served by the band parents.
The performance was dedicated to CHS student Brooke Habetz, who was recently severely injured in an automobile collision, and her family. Her godmother, Marlene Menard, was on hand to say a few words to the crowd and provide an update on her condition. The concert was also dedicated to the memory of the late CHS student Maria Serrano. The band played Pavel’s “Salvation is Created” in dedication to Habetz and in memory of Serrano.
The band’s conductor and director, Alex Riviere, also presented several awards to deserving band memvers, including Gillian Trahan, who received the Quincy Jones Musicianship Award; Marshall Wilbert III, who received the John Phillip Sousa Award; Alanna Lejeune, who received the Patrick S. Gilmore Award; and Rodneaka Thibo, who received the Band Director Award.
