Pink Ladies learn of different duties

The board of directors of the Pink Lady Auxiliary of the Acadia General Hospital met for its regular meeting on March 2 in the hospital conference room, with 10 members in attendance.

President Gloria LeBlanc called the meeting to order, after which Evelyn Barousse led the group in the hospital auxiliary volunteer prayer and pledge, as well as the Pledge of Allegiance. In the absence of Secretary Roberta Sonnier the roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read by Sylvia Dischler. After the minutes were approved, Treasurer Nettie Romero gave the financial report, which was also approved.

President LeBlanc announced that the plants in the lobby are now being cared for by Plush Petals and seem to be doing well.

Leisa Thibodeaux advised the group that there are seven new recruits, all of whom have been trained and are working. One of the new volunteers will be working with the human resource department.

Monica Guidry, the hospital’s volunteer coordinator, explained that some of the new volunteers will work in other areas with duties other than those that the Pink Ladies have traditionally performed. Volunteers are needed for a wide variety of duties and the Pink Ladies are asked to encourage anyone who would like to give her time to help the community to pick up an application. Applications are available from any Pink Lady at the front desk of the hospital, and applicants can get more information from President LeBlanc.

The hospital’s executives sent apologies to the Pink Ladies who had attempted to attend a 5 p.m. forum the week before and were turned away. Because the meeting was mandatory for the hospital’s salaried employees and seating was limited, some Pink Ladies were asked to leave.

It was reported that the final bid had been given for the bridge between Tower One and the hospital. The Pink Ladies have given a substantial donation to complete this project.

Romero reminded President LeBlanc that letters should be sent out soon to the various parish schools for them to name the recipients of the Pink Lady scholarships given at graduation. Upon motion, the board agreed to continue to sending two girls to Louisiana Girls’ State in Baton Rouge.

The board was advised that the hospital will treat the Pink Ladies to a Luncheon at the Cajundome in Lafayette on April 15. Award Pins will be given at that time.
