Pink Ladies plan scholarships
On Monday, May 4, the board of the Pink Ladies of Acadia General Hospital held its regular monthly meeting in the conference room of the hospital to make final plans for the general luncheon and the election and installation of officers to be held on May 6.
President Gloria LeBlanc conducted the meeting with the usual order of business. Evelyn Barousse, chaplain, led the volunteer pledge, prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Roberta Sonnier called roll and read the minutes. Nettie Romero read the financial report, stating that there will be several large disbursements made in the near future as the Pink Ladies will pay for two girls from Acadia Parish to go to Girls’ State and will give scholarships at each of the seven parish schools.
The cost of the luncheon and the regular monthly bills will be paid as well.
LeBlanc announced that there will be no more 100-hour service pins, and that the first pin given will be for 500 hours.
Mary Briley has coordinated the awarding of scholarships given by the Pink Ladies. Making the presentations will be Leisa Thibodeaux, Midland High; Roberta Sonnier, Rayne High; Dean Gaspard and Barbara Courville, Church Point High; Mary Briley, Crowley High; Lou Cormier and Jeannie Fruge, Notre Dame High; and Esther Henderson, Iota High and Northside Christian High.
The technical school’s presenter will be announced later.
Monica Guidry, volunteer manager, brought the board members up to date on several items. The Pink Ladies had agreed to donate the money to construct a bridge to the street leading to Tower One and the board was advised that the cost is less than originally planned. A plaque will be placed on it showing that the Pink Ladies made the donation. The extra money contributed will be used for art work in various areas of the hospital.
Guidry also informed the board that the Pink Ladies will be included in several meetings scheduled by Lafayette General.
The board was advised that during Hospital Week, May 11 through May 17, there would be a Blessing of Hands on May 13 by local Catholic priests in the hospital chapel. All would be welcome regardless of denomination. Gifts would be given to all employees and volunteers during this week. On Sunday, May 17, Lafayette General Hospital would host a Family Picnic at Cajun Field. There is no charge and there will be food and entertainment for all employees and volunteers.
In June there will be a forum at the Town Club in Crowley for volunteers and employees. Pink Ladies are encouraged to attend and to wear their uniforms.
Dates and times for the annual safety training meeting will be scheduled later.
The next board meeting will be June 1 in the conference room of the hospital.
