St. Joseph High class of ‘54 celebrates reunion

RAYNE - The 1954 graduating class of the former St. Joseph High School gathered for a 60-year class reunion at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café.

The 6 p.m. social and meal was enjoyed by a number of classmates and guests who attended from Rayne, Crowley, Jennings and Georgia.

Reunion committee members were Helen Gossen Arsement, Mary Ann Prevost Breaux and William LeBlanc, who provided several detailed picture collages from grammer school days until graduation. Displayed were pictures showing a number of snapshots of academics, school spirit, sports and social events by Norma Jean Guillot Landry.

The 15 classmates in attendance and their guests ordered entrees from the restaurant’s menu and followed with a special cake provided by Daisy Cakes.

Classmates in attendance were Mary Ann Prevost Breaux, Margaret Pharr Zaunbrecher, Dolores Gilbert Thibodeaux, Louetta Meche Simon, Margaret Habetz Bouillion, Betty Comeaix Perrodin and Norma Guillot Landry, Alfred Zaunbrecher, Audrey Mier Darce, Donald Petitjean, Joyce Monceaux Alleman, Josie Heinen Millet, Helen Gossen Arsement, Selma Faulk Blanchard and William LeBlanc.

Special guest in attendance was Mrs. Stella Hildreth, wife of long-time school coach Everett Hildreth.

Deceased classmates remembered were Charles Dupont and Dolores Thibodeaux Werner.

Class officers were president Helen Gossen Arsement, vice president Merlin Hoffpauir, secretary Mary Ann Prevost Breaux and treasurer Margaret Pharr Zaunbrecher.

Remembered was the class colors of blue and silver, the red rose was the class flower, “When You Walk Through A Storm” was the class song, and the class motto was “Not The Sunset, But The Dawn.”
