Three Ten Club hears of Manson, Jones
The Three Ten Club recently held its regular monthly meeting at the Crowley home of Helen Zaunbrecher, with Esther Trahan serving as co-hostess.
President Sandy Melancon presided over the business portion of the Tuesday, March 17, meeting, which included the introduction and welcoming of Adele Carr as a new member.
The “Getting to Know You” segment of the meeting featured members M’elise Trahan and Mary Beth Geesey, who shared historical and anecdotal tidbits about their lives.
Starting with an intriguing “test question,” Esther Trahan presented the evening’s program entitled “Icons of Evil - Charles Manson and Jim Jones.” Trahan related that Manson and Jones had backgrounds and personalities that enabled them to rise to leadership among direction-less members of society by offering unconditional love, strength, direction, security and drugs. According to Trahan, Manson and Jones demanded total loyalty from, and fostered feelings of mistrust and paranoia in, their followers against other races, as well as against “establishment” religion, society and government.
At the close of the meeting, club members enjoyed refreshments and each other’s company.
In addition to those already mentioned, members in attendance included Carolyn Barousse, Muff Bier, Bobbie delaHoussaye, Flo Faulk, Jackie Fogleman, Sissy Gall, Suzanne Gray, Brucie Landry, Patty Lawrence, Gretchen Ohlenforst, Georgie Petitjean, Peggy Sandidge, and Alice Whiting. Associate members in attendance were Barbara Geesey and Barbara Scanlan.
