Three-Ten Club to study first ladies

The Three-Ten Club 74th club year with a meeting at the home of Georgie Petitjean on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Serving as co-hostesses were Sandy Melancon and Adele Carr.
The meeting was led by the club president, Suzanne Gray. Following roll call by Sissy Gall, secretary, and a report from Bobbie delaHoussaye, treasurer, two new members, Joan Finley and Ann Sibley, were introduced and formally inducted into the club by Flo Faulk. Additionally, the club welcomed back past member Liz Harrington.
Mary Beth Geesey, club projects committee chairperson, announced that Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen is in need of help cooking and serving. M’elise Trahan reported that the Faith House shelter is always in need of toiletries and encouraged members to bring items for donation to the club meetings.
Melancon introduced the theme for the new club year, “First Ladies From Martha to Michelle.” The wives of America’s presidents are important threads in the fabric of the country, from serving as hostesses of the White House and role models for women and girls around the world, to taking active roles in politics, in charitable foundations and as unofficial ambassadors. Each has had her own special character and talents that collectively create a rich and fascinating tapestry of tradition and history.
Club members participated in an interesting and entertaining quiz, guessing which first lady did one thing or another.
The members were reminded that the art of Virginia Duson will be on display at The Gallery beginning on Oct. 3 and were advised that the Crowley Garden Club will have a booth at Levy Park during Rice Festival, where the members will be selling wreaths and other handmade items, along with raffle tickets for a painting by Robert Baxter, with proceeds to fund city beautification projects.
The meeting adjourned, with the invitation to stay and enjoy refreshments and fellowship.
In addition to those previously mentioned, members in attendance included Carolyn Barousse, Muff Bier, Isabella delaHoussaye, Virginia Duson, Jackie Fogleman, Letza Fogleman, Mary Freeland, Kay Fruge, Catherine Hodges, Louise Morrow, Gretchen Ohlenforst, Peggy Sandidge, Esther Trahan, Valerie Trahan, Alice Whiting and Helen Zaunbrecher. Associate Members in attendance were Florette Bergeron, Betty Faulk, Barbara Geesey, Barbara Scanlan and Elaine Wright.
