Miss Crowley royalty crowned

CROWLEY - The Grand Opera House was filled with beauty and glamour Saturday night as it served as the venue for the 2015 Miss, Teen Miss and Junior Miss Crowley Pageants.
The Miss Crowley Pageant, hosted by the Crowley Professional Women’s Club and sponsored by Jaguar Energy Services, celebrated its 79th year with a bevy of gorgeous ladies vying for the titles.
Miss Heather Trahan, whose sponsor for the evening was Evangeline Bank, was crowned as the newest ambassador to the Rice Capital of America, Miss Crowley 2015, by Miss Crowley 2014 Julian Devillier.
She was presented with a crown donated by Dugas, Soileau & Breaux, a banner donated by Tony Clark and TC Directional Drilling, LLC, a scepter and the use of the Miss Crowley mantle and train.
She will serve as the City of Crowley’s ambassador to the 2016 International Rice Festival.
She is the 20-year-old daughter of Sid and Elisabeth Trahan. A 2013 graduate of Crowley High School and also a graduate of LSUE with an associate degree in business management, Heather is currently employed as an accountant intern.
While in high school, she was involved with the National Honor Society and Student Council and was a member of the Yearbook Staff.
She participated in softball, cheerleading, cross-country, power lifting and track. Her honors and awards included the Calculus Award, an ACT Medal, the TOPS Opportunity Award and graduation in the top 10 of her high school class.
Heather’s hobbies and interests include photography, fishing and frogging. She is also an avid duck hunter and enjoys cooking and baking, as well as math, fashion and solving puzzles.
Her plans for the future are to continue her education at UL Lafayette and major in accounting.
Her court included first runner up, Nicole Taylor, who was sponsored by Acadiana Smiles; second runner up, Brooklynn Regan, who was sponsored by Double L Customs; and third runner up, McKenzie Jabusch, who was sponsored by D. Keith Latiola for Sheriff.
Court members will represent the City of Crowley at an area festival of their choice.
Taking the crown as Teen Miss Crowley 2015 was Alyssa Williams, who was sponsored by Rice City Gymnastics.
Being crowned by 2014 Teen Miss Crowley, Victoria Callahan, Alyssa is the 15-year-old daughter of Thomas and Dawn Williams.
Currently a student at Notre Dame High School, she will be entering her sophomore year this fall. She is a member of the NDHS basketball, track and volleyball teams, serves as 4-H secretary, is a member of the Quiz Bowl Team and is in the Honors Program.
Alyssa is a member of St. Michael’s Church where she serves as a reader, an Altar Society Member and a member of the Youth Group. She has also volunteered with the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.
She enjoys reading and listening to music and hopes to one day play basketball or volleyball at the college level. She is also making plans for a mission trip next spring.
After high school, Alyssa plans to attend Louisiana State University and study pre-law.
Her new crown is compliments of Ruddock’s Bakery and given in loving memory of the late Vicki Ramos, who so graciously and generously supported the Miss Crowley Pageants for many years. Her banner was donated by Dr. and Mrs. Max Trahan.
First runner up for this year’s pageant in the Teen Division was Cyla Ledet, who was sponsored by Shabby to Chic, and second runner up was Emily Taylor, who was sponsored by Thib’s Auto Titles and Tags, Inc.
Reigning as Junior Miss Crowley for the year 2015 will be Jadyn Devillier.
She was crowned by Junior Miss Crowley 2014, Jessica Clayton, and given a crown and banner that were compliments of Sheriff Wayne A. Melancon.
Her sponsor for the evening was J.C. and Suzy Webb and Acadia Parish Farm Bureau.
She is the 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sean Paul Devillier. She will be a seventh grade student at St. Michael School this fall.
Her school activities include participation in the St. Michael School Choir, playing volleyball and membership in the 4-H and Student Council Clubs.
Jadyn has received the Honor Roll Award and the Christian Award, has been nominated for Student of the Year and has placed first in the Social Studies Fair.
She has assisted with the St. Jude’s Lemonade Stand, is a steward for the Acadia Parish Little Free Library, sings at LARC’s Christmas in Acadian Village and is co-authoring a book titled, “ABC is for Crowley.”
Her hobbies and interests include playing formal piano, golfing with her dad and dancing. She loves everything Disney, as well as her 23 pets, shopping and listening to music.
Her court included first runner up Zoe Carmichael, sponsored by Carmichael Rental Properties, and second runner up, Taren Adams, who was sponsored by Fezzo’s Seafood and Steakhouse.
In addition to the crowning of the newest royalty, there were also awards given for Miss Congeniality and Most Photogenic, as well as scholarships given in the Miss Division.
Miss Congeniality for the Junior division was Raina Bolduc, sponsored by K.P. Gibson for Sheriff. Taking the honor in the Teen division was Emily Taylor, and Brooklynn Regan received the award among the Miss division contestants.
Receiving the award for Most Photogenic in the Junior division was Mikayla Clayton, sponsored by First National Bank; in the Teen division was Cyla Ledet; and in the Miss Division was McKenzie Jabusch.
Those contestants vying for the title of 2015 Miss Crowley were also eligible to participate in the scholarship competition.
The winner of the $500 scholarship was Nicole Taylor, and the recipient of the $1,000 Billie Ruth Welch Memorial Scholarship was Heather Trahan.
There was also recognition given to the young lady who sold the most ads for the 2015 program. The winner of this award was Jadyn Devillier.
The proceeds from the sales of ads to local businesses and family members are used to help provide scholarships each year.
The evening, which was emceed by Mayor Greg Jones and Tessa Leleux Richard, was filled with the excitement of the pageants, along with entertainment by the Dolores Nutt School of Dance.
As the contestants offered their stage presentations to the judges, Andrew Piron accompanied the ladies for a live piano performance.
Mayor Jones also offered his remarks as well as a key to the city to the outgoing Miss Crowley, Julian Devillier, and Elizabeth Leleux, representing the 79th International Rice Festival, spoke of the upcoming festivities.
Also on hand to congratulate the 2015 queens were Miss Crowley title holders from years past and visiting queens from Louisiana’s many fairs and festivals.
Special guests for the evening were the young royalty of Crowley, Toddler Miss Crowley, Farrah Ortego, and Deb Miss Crowley, Mary Katherine Dischler.
Shortly before the crowning of the new city royalty, 2014 Miss Crowley, Julian Devillier, who will be the city of Crowley’s representative to the 79th International Rice Festival in October, offered her farewell speech and spoke of her reign.
The ladies began their day with interviews held at Crowley City Hall and hosted by the Crowley Professional Women’s Club.
Immediately following the pageant, the new queens were honored at a ball held at Le Grand Hall. Guests enjoyed delicious catering by Rice Palace and entertainment by DJ Tracy Young.

The 2015 pageant co-chairpersons, Tessa Richard and Elizabeth Monk, along with all of the Crowley Professional Women’s Club, extend their sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all who helped to make this year’s pageant such a success.
