In a joint project, the city of Crowley and the Acadia Parish Police Jury will repair about 1,600 feet of Forest Drive.

Jurors approved an intergovernmental agreement Tuesday night that will effectively reconstruct the area of roadway recently damaged by a dirt-hauling operation intended to build up a residential lot located on Forest Drive just outside the corporate limits of Crowley.

The damage rendered the pavement structure in need of complete reconstruction, according to Tim Mader, engineer for the Crowley and the Police Jury.

Forest Drive is located just north of Interstate 10 and west of Louisiana Highway 13, with which it intersects.

Of the 1,600 feet damaged, 1,200 feet are within the corporate limits of the city. The remaining 400 feet are maintained by the parish.

In addressing the jury recently, Mader noted that “it would likely be more cost effective to include the improvements of all 1,600 feet in one project,” saving on mobilization costs included with such work.

The city offered that it would be willing to included the improvements that lie outside the corporate limits in the city project contingent upon the Police Jury reimbursing all costs associated with the design and construction of that area outside the city limits.

The jury plans to seek reimbursement from the dirt-hauling company that reportedly caused the damage.
