A former employee of a local nursing home pleaded guilty in 15th Judicial District Court Monday to cruelty to the infirm.
Symone S. Boutte, 21, of the 1700 block of North Avenue I in Crowley, pleaded guilty to the two-count bill of information before District Judge John Trahan.
According to evidence presented at the guilty plea, on the afternoon of Aug. 8, 2013, Boutte, while employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Camelot Place and in the presence of another CNA, mistreated and committed simple battery upon a 75-year-old nursing home resident who suffers from degenerative mental disabilities and is unable to care for himself.
That afternoon, angered that the resident had soiled himself, Boutte put a toothbrush into the bowel movement of the victim then forced the toothbrush into the victim’s mouth.
The CNA who witnessed the act said the victim was trying to turn his head away but could not.
Boutte was sentenced to nine years hard labor, all but one year suspended, and four years of active supervised probation. She was given credit for time served.
Boutte also was ordered to pay a $250 fine, $420 in court costs and a $350 indigent defender fee.
The investigation was conducted by the state Attorney General’s office.
Assistant District Attorney Burleigh Doga prosecuted the case.
