It was far from business as usual at the Wal-Mart in Crowley Sunday night.

At about 5:45 p.m., according to the Office of State Fire Marshal “Butch” Browning, a call was dispatched in regard to a fire at the Crowley Wal-Mart, located at 729 Odd Fellows Road.

First responders reported that the fire originated from the clothing section of the store, specifically the ladies jeans section.

Investigators with the state fire marshal’s office have concluded through witness statements and video surveillance footage that the fire was intentionally set. And while the investigation is ongoing, the fire marshal’s office has pinpointed a juvenile suspect. The suspect appears to be of preschool age, according to the state fire marshal’s office.

A hand-held lighter was also found near the fire’s origin.

The fire is said to have caused an estimated $3,500-3,600 in damage. However, the store remains open and there were no injuries reported.

Responding to Sunday night’s blaze were the Crowley Fire Department, Crowley Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
