The United States Department of Education recognized Martin Petitjean Elementary School and South Crowley Elementary School as two of the six Louisiana schools named 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors schools that are either high-performing or have closed achievement gaps, especially among minority or disadvantaged students. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels. Nominated schools submit applications to the USDOE for the award.
Schools are recognized in one of two performance categories:
• Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools are among the state’s highest-performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s subgroups and all students over the past five years. Both Martin Petitjean Elementary and South Crowley Elementary were designated in this category.
• Exemplary High Performing Schools are among the state’s highest-performing schools as measured by state assessments. Student subgroup performance and high school graduation rates are also at the highest levels.
