Rayne election results told
The Rayne City Council will have a new look for the coming term following Saturday's runoff election. Of the city's four districts, three seats were voted upon with three new faces elected as told by unofficial results.
In District 1, newcomer Curtrese Minix collected 377 votes, just 36 more than incumbent Ann Domingue-Washington at 341.
With the retirement of Butch Abshire, District 2 will see Kenneth Guidry seated at the City Council meetings as he managed to defeat Larry J. Menard with a 371 to 313 tally.
Newcomer Jimmy Fontenot defeated incumbent Gerald Foreman 466 to 366 in Dictrict 3, adding another new face to the City Council.
Two-term incumbent Carroll Stelly will remain Rayne's police chief as he collected 1,589 votes over challenger Joesph Caillet's 1,488 votes.
In the City Marshal's race, incumbent Alex "Joe" LaCroix will continue his service as he defeated challenger Jamie Conques 2,275 to 2,130.
Church Point's David Smith will serve as the new 15th District Judge as he collected 70% of the votes over Mike Goss of Crowley.
In last month's primary election, Charles Robichaux was elected Rayne's new mayor over Roland Boudreaux who held that office for two years, while Incumbent Calise Michael Doucet retained his District 4 City Council seat over Daniel Venable.
In the hotly contested state-wide election for U.S. Senator, Bill Cassedy collected over 74% of the votes to unseat 18-year incumbent Mary Landrieu.
