Ross Elem. participates in site visit

Ross Elementary School is a part of the “Leader In Me” Program by Steven Covey – taken from the 7 Habits of Successful Students.

This week, the United Way of Acadiana Vision Council Board made a site visit to Ross Elementary to see the program in action.

Upon arrival, the board was greeted by student leaders as well as Ross Elementary Lighthouse Committee and Chairperson Brandol Monday. 

Principal Paula Cutrer welcomed the group to the school. 

The board also received a  summary of how the program works and toured the school to see the program in action. During this time, Christine Freeman, first grade teacher at Ross Elementary, explained the specific services the program provides and what issues it addresses.

Ruth Barbier, reading coach, showed how Ross uses data to define success through a presentation. She described impact data/achievements that are not tracked through the United Way PACT Grant that help demonstrate Ross’s success and described the programs growth and sustainability in relation to outcomes and goals.

James Etta David described the community assets and partnerships Ross has leveraged to improve outcomes for the target population.

At the closing, Ross Elementary provided first-hand accounts and testimonials in an effort to bring “Leader In Me” as close to the work/home as possible. Cynthia Murray and LaQuanta Wilson-Evans shared personal testimonials to the group along with Dr. Ezora Proctor, who represented the community.

Several students also shared their testimonials.

A first grade group presented the 7 Habits along with each habit’s meaning. Jeremy Dugas, another first grader, presented an oration on “Tomorrrow’s Opportunity” and Cierra Dronet, a fifth grader and the school’s Student of the Year, gave her personal testimony on how much “Leader In Me” has helped her during the past two years.
