Special session called ahead of committee meetings

When the dust settled on Election Day, the Acadia Parish School Board was left with a clear picture as to who would be in their midst for the next four years.

But it was a race from St. Landry Parish has left the board in counsel limbo.

The Acadia Parish School Board’s attorney, Gerard Caswell, was elected to serve as district judge for the 27th Judicial District Court, which means the board now will need new counsel.

Thus, the board has called for a special session Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m., ahead of its committee meetings, for the sole purpose of considering an interim counsel for the board.

Following the special session, the board’s committees will meet beginning with the Personnel/Insurance/Curriculum Committee. Items up for consideration for this committee include discussing the aspects of school choice policy and discussing the adjustments to the field trip policy, both as previously discussed by the PIC Committee and the board.

The PIC Committee will also consider the five-point grading scale.

The Budget/Finance Committee will meet immediately following the PIC Committee.

Up for consideration by the BF Committee will be a change order to Iota classroom project, a report on moving forward with an E-Rate request for proposals, Child Nutrition’s request to advertise for specific can goods and meat, granting the superintendent or his designee the authority to work on the renewal of Fifth Ward and Iota-Egan millages and other millages as applicable and budget items.
