Louisiana State Police with Troop D are suggesting motorist find a new way into Texas for the time being.
As flooding waters from the north continue to trickle down toward the Gulf of Mexico, state police and the Louisiana Department of Transportation announced the closure of Interstate 10 at the Texas-Louisiana state line due to flooding in the area at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
DOTD will continue to monitor weather conditions and will advise of any changes.
An aerial view of the visitor’s center near the line shows that it too was not immune to rising water.
Troop D has suggested the following detour routes to get in and out of the states for the time being.
• I-10 Westbound: Take I-10 to Interstate 49, then I-49 to Interstate 20 into Texas before traveling back down to I-10.
• I-10 Eastbound: Take I-20 into Louisiana to I-49 then to I-10.
As emergency personnel continue to battle the rising waters across the state, LSP has also reminded motorist of key safety tips for those having to travel to areas with high water.
• Obey barricades and high water signs.
• Avoid using cruise control when road is wet.
• Allow extra driving time.
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Avoid driving into standing or running water.
