Voters approve mills

All election results are unofficially until they are certified.

Two drainage mills and the city of Rayne's recreation mill were all approved by Acadia Parish voters Saturday.

Turnout wasn't high in any of the three voting areas, but enough voters went to the polls Saturday to voice a yes for the mills up for vote.

In the Bayou Plaquemine and Wikoff drainage district area, a 10-year, 5.12 mills was renewed overwhelmingly by 82.2 percent or 157 votes. Thirty-four, or 17.8 percent voted no.

For the Second Ward Gravity Drainage District No. 2, the 8.89 mill property tax was renewed for 10 years by 82 percent or 41 votes. Voting no was 12 percent, or 9 percent.

Finally, in Rayne, 319 voted yes to renew a mill tax to help the recreation department. The 83.29 percent renewed the 5-mill tax for a period of 10 years. Sixty-four votes, or 16.71 percent, voted no Saturday.
