Church gives to schools

Pastor Rob Miller, of First Lutheran Church in Lafayette recently found himself with two large, tin buildings on the grounds of his place of worship.
With no use for the buildings he decided to look around to see if there were any area schools who may be able to use them.
“We used to use them for the school that we ran at our church,” said Pastor Miller. “We weren’t using them so we decided to look around for any schools that could.”
It wasn’t long before two schools in Acadia Parish said that they could put the buildings to use.
“We’ve already dropped one of them off at Branch Elementary which will serve as a special education room,” said Miller. “Today (Friday) we are bringing one to North Crowley Elementary.”
According to Ken Arceneaux, a contractor with the Acadia Parish School Board, the new building at North Crowley will serve as a classroom.
After a few tense minutes, when the large building traveled down Western Avenue – virtually shutting down traffic – the building arrived at North Crowley.
When asked why he made the trip once the buildings had already been picked up, Miller smiled and said “My son, Simon, was dying to ride in an 18-wheeler. I asked the driver if that would be OK and he agreed.”
Arceneaux said that the buildings at both schools should be ready by the start of the school year.
