City Council ‘corrects’ vote on tax millages

The Rayne City Council held a special 8 a.m. meeting Monday. Aug. 4, to formally adopt 2014 tax millages.
Though the millages had been voted on during the Council’s July meeting, the second vote was required due to an error in the Council’s public notice regarding the tax vote.
The legal notice inadvertently used the word “district” instead of “city” in reference to the planned vote.
Subsequently, city officials learned the public notice was no longer required, as of new state legislation effective Aug. 1.
The millages of 7.10 for general alimony an 5.0 for parks and recreation were approved unchanged from the previous year.
