Council tables action on railroad crossing

Reporting that he has yet to receive a response from the Department of Transportation and Development regarding a monetary settlement and upgrading of other railroad crossings within the city, the City Council Monday night agreed with Mayor Chuck Robichaux and tabled an ordinance for the closing of the Parkerson Street crossing.
The Council also tabled an ordinance regarding enlarging the city’s boundary along the north side of E. Jefferson Davis due to the need to call a public hearing prior to the Aug. 10 meeting.
The Council approved changes to the makeup of the Municipal Service Board accepting the retirement of Dalfred Alleman and naming Eric A. Jolivette as his replacement and appointing Benjamin G. Lormand to the board after Dowell D. Folds declined his appointment made in June.
The Council approved rehiring Kyle Seaux as a police officer and the promotion of police officers Joey Thibodeaux, Travis Guidry and Brandon Dupuis to the rank of Police Officer First Class, upon the recommendation of Police Chief Carroll Stelly. Two police vehicles were also declared surplus property to be sold at public auction.
Demolition deadlines ranging from 45 to 90 days were imposed by the Council for trailers located at 507 W. Butler, 208 N. Arenas, 705 East B North, 503 N. LeBlanc, 804 Lyman and 212 3rd Street and two house located at 613 N. McGown and 607 N. Gown.
City Engineer Tim Mader gave an update on the resurfacing of American Legion Drive and Zaunbrecher Road, reporting the new bridge is completed.
In other action, the Council:
• Adjusted 2015 property taxes to reflect closed businesses and assessment errors;
• Approved a street drive permit for the Beautiful Majestic Ladies Social Club on Aug. 22; and
• A proposal for Elizabeth Zaunbrecher to adopt an ordinance regarding green-space provisions on new construction and commercial properties in the city.
