Rain dampens Crowley activities
CROWLEY - A strong front, complete with high winds and driving rain, moved through Crowley Thursday afternoon causing Notre Dame High School to cancel their annual homecoming parade.
Other events, such as the schools Chili Cook-Off and their pep rally, were moved indoors due to the threat of violent weather.
The city of Crowley’s annual Halloween event, Witchy Way, took place as scheduled and, as of press time, the city’s regular trick or treating hours were still scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
All week long weathermen warned Acadiana residents about the front passing through on Thursday afternoon and it arrived right on schedule.
“We will be holding our Chili Cook-Off in the gym this year and our trick-or-treating will be moved indoors,” said Notre Dame High School’s Louisette Broussard earlier this week.
Broussard had also stated that a final decision on the parade would be made at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. By noon, it was becoming apparent what that decision would be.
By 3:30 p.m., trick-or-treaters began to fill downtown Crowley. Dozens of umbrellas decorated the downtown area as parents took their eager children to different participating businesses.
Those children that attended left with a treasure trove of candy, smiles and wet costumes.
