Volunteer firemen fight Sunday blaze

Rayne volunteer firefighters battled a fire which destroyed the home of Russell Buchanan, 401 Live Oak Street, in the early Sunday morning hours.
Firemen were initially called out at 5:58 p.m. Saturday to control a fire which broke out in the home’s laundry room.
They were called out a second time at 12:20 a.m. Sunday and poured out some 100,000 gallons of water on the blaze which consumed the house and damaged a 1966 Mustang automobile, camper, moped and motorcycle before it was brought under control about five hours later.
A state fire marshal was called to the scene and conducted an investigation.
Fire Chief Allen “Noochie” Credeur reports the cause of the fire is undetermined but apparently originated in the laundry room.
A total of 22 volunteer firefighters responded to the fire scene, reports Chief Credeur.
